Challenges of Building an AI-Powered Search Result Management Platform
Search Tuner came to us with a bold and innovative vision: to create a smart, user-centric SaaS platform that empowers users to analyze their browsing behavior, filter search results, and optimize productivity through AI-driven insights — all while offering a seamless experience across a browser extension, web client, and backend.
Their goal was to build a comprehensive, privacy-focused tool that would not only give users full control over their Google search environment, but also help them understand their digital habits, identify distractions, and improve time management.
To bring this vision to life, we had to solve several technical and architectural challenges in a very tight time frame. The key requirements and challenges for the Search Tuner project included:
- Full-platform development, including a fully functional backend, Chrome extension, and web client that work together smoothly;
- Creating a Chrome extension, capable of integrating directly into the Google search results page, allowing users to like, dislike, or hide results and block domains in real time;
- Building a web-based analytics dashboard that could visualize user browsing history, track time spent on sites, and allow filtering by category, date, or site type — requiring smooth data processing and clear UI/UX;
- Implementing AI-powered behavior analysis, including algorithms to detect productivity trends, identify distracting websites, and suggest optimal work hours based on user patterns;
- Automatic website categorization, where each visited page would be tagged as work, learning, entertainment, social media, etc., using intelligent classification methods;
- Ensure data privacy and regulatory compliance across all the platform components, as well as making the platform scalable and cloud-ready, so that future versions could handle thousands of users without compromising speed or UX.
Given the complexity and scope of the solution, Search Tuner needed a development partner with deep expertise in backend, browser extension development, and AI implementation. What set Fively apart was our ability to deliver fully integrated solutions fast, while maintaining a high standard of code quality, modular architecture, and AI-powered features.
Impressed by our track record with building intelligent SaaS platforms and real-world Chrome extensions, the Search Tuner team decided to partner with Fively to bring their product to lifeб and our fruitful collaboration began in February, 2025.
How Fively Helped Build the AI-Powered Search Tuner Platform
In partnership with the Search Tuner team, Fively was entrusted with creating a high-performance, AI-enhanced SaaS platform designed to personalize Google search results, track web activity, and deliver real-time productivity insights. Our senior full-stack engineer took a hands-on approach to design, develop, and deliver a fully integrated solution in just one month.
Here’s how we contributed to Search Tuner’s success:
Project Architecture. From the start of this SaaS case study, our goal was to translate Search Tuner’s product concept into a seamlessly connected system across the backend, web client, and Chrome extension.
We began by working closely with the client to gather business requirements and design specifications. Our senior full-stack engineer developed UI layouts for the Chrome extension and web dashboard, using React to ensure consistency across the ecosystem and Plasmo to optimize extension development and deployment.
On the backend, we used Nest.js and PostgreSQL to create a reliable, modular server with robust endpoints that supported real-time communication with the Chrome extension, activity data logging and filtering, and custom search result blocking logic. This architecture enabled smooth data synchronization across all components — so user actions in the extension instantly reflected in the dashboard and database.
Also, using custom logic and AI tools, we helped Search Tuner implement website productivity scoring based on user interaction patterns, as well as categorization engine (e.g., work, social, entertainment and other website categories), and tune peak productivity detection and personalized time optimization recommendations. This intelligence was displayed on the web dashboard through intuitive charts and filters, allowing users to see not just where they spent time — but how well they used it.
To build a responsive, modern, and scalable solution, we relied on the following technologies:
- Nest.js and PostgreSQL – For building a robust backend with scalable data handling and clean architecture;
- React and Plasmo – For developing a high-performance Chrome extension with real-time interactivity;
- React + Vite – To create a web dashboard with modular UI components and clean data visualization;
- Chrome APIs – For extension-level DOM manipulation, search result injection, and browser session tracking;
- AI tools – Custom logic for productivity scoring, category detection, and insight generation.
Team Structure. The project was powered by tight collaboration between Search Tuner’s product owner and Fively’s dedicated senior full-stack engineer. Together, we built a cross-functional loop that kept development efficient and decisions fast.
Communication Tools. Throughout the project, we maintained transparent and efficient communication. We held daily stand-ups via Slack, meetings via Zoom twice a week, as well as kept version control via GitHub. Communication was clear and concise, and any questions were promptly addressed via Slack and Zoom calls.
Thanks to this productive partnership, Search Tuner launched as a fully operational SaaS product that lets users take control of their online environment—one search and one insight at a time.
Search Tuner Project Results: Redefining How We Experience the Web
Together with the Search Tuner team, we’re proud to present a feature-rich, AI-driven SaaS platform that reimagines the way users interact with the internet — giving them full control over their search results and deep insights into their digital habits.
- Fively successfully handled the full-cycle development of the project — designing and building a robust backend, a lightweight Chrome extension, and a fast, intuitive web dashboard. Despite the complexity of AI features and multi-component integration, we delivered the entire solution in just 1 month.
- Thanks to our modular architecture and well-structured workflows, the entire platform launched on time, fully functional, and ready for real-world usage. Our smart use of Plasmo for the Chrome extension and Vite for the web client allowed us to keep performance high and deployment times low.
- The platform now enables users to analyze website usage across any timeframe, filter by domain or category, and understand how their digital behavior impacts productivity. This transparency helps users stay mindful of their focus and time management.
- We successfully implemented an AI-powered activity analysis system that detects peak productivity hours, flags distracting websites, provides tailored suggestions for better focus, and auto-categorizes browsing history into smart labels like Work, Learning, Entertainment, and more.
- The search result filtering engine, built directly into the Chrome extension, now allows users to like, dislike, or block search results on the fly, drastically improving their Google experience. The ability to hide unwanted content and permanently block domains makes for cleaner, distraction-free searches.
- The integration between backend, extension, and client is now fully synchronized, providing a seamless, unified experience across all components. Whether a user updates their filters, views AI reports, or modifies search behavior — every action is reflected instantly across the platform.
- Security and privacy were top priorities. We implemented secure user data handling and followed best practices to ensure that browsing behavior and preferences remain protected, helping Search Tuner build trust with its user base from day one.
Today, Search Tuner stands as a powerful, cloud-based productivity platform that combines behavioral insight, AI-driven optimization, and real-time web control, positioning itself as a next-gen tool for modern professionals, students, and digital natives. This system offers real-time feedback that’s both actionable and easy to interpret — empowering users to take control of their digital well-being.
